SUMMARY:Sign-up begins for Book Discussion: My Antonia by Willa Cather
DESCRIPTION:Open to district residents only. Limit of 20 people. A classic of American literature\, this story is narrated by Jim Burden\, who is sent to live with his grandparents in Nebraska after being orphaned. On the Nebraska-bound train with him is a family of immigrants from Bohemia\, the Shimerdas\, and Jim begins a life-long fascination with their daughter Antonia. While rural life is often harsh and tiresome for the two youngsters\, Jim is able to leave for further education while Antonia chooses a life on the prairie. A vivid portrait of the many immigrant groups that came to form America at the start of the twentieth century\, My Antonia remains a favorite for its beautiful language and soulful portrayal of a survivor who retains her free spirit and strong will through many hardships. Sign-up begins Wednesday\, February 8 at the adult reference desk.  You will receive a copy of the book with discussion questions at that time.  \n______________________________\nThis Event Downloaded From a Helios Calendar Powered Site
