Sign-up begins for Book Discussion: My Antonia by Willa Cather

Open to district residents only. Limit of 20 people.

A classic of American literature, this story is narrated by Jim Burden, who is sent to live with his grandparents in Nebraska after being orphaned. On the Nebraska-bound train with him is a family of immigrants from Bohemia, the Shimerdas, and Jim begins a life-long fascination with their daughter Antonia. While rural life is often harsh and tiresome for the two youngsters, Jim is able to leave for further education while Antonia chooses a life on the prairie. A vivid portrait of the many immigrant groups that came to form America at the start of the twentieth century, My Antonia remains a favorite for its beautiful language and soulful portrayal of a survivor who retains her free spirit and strong will through many hardships.

Sign-up begins Wednesday, February 8 at the adult reference desk.  You will receive a copy of the book with discussion questions at that time.
