The Suffolk County Department of Health offers this free smoking cessation program to residents. Classes are conducted by professional public health educators. Information is provided about the physical, emotional, and habitual aspects of smoking. The Suffolk County Department of Health is able to offer prescription medication as well as nicotine replacement products such as the nicotine patch, gum, inhaler, and nasal spray for an annual $50 fee. These products will be made available under the supervision of a nurse practitioner. Only medically eligible participants who are attending classes will receive medications. Post-cessation support groups are held regularly throughout the county.
