News from the Amazon isn't good-pharmaceutical researcher Anders Eckman, who had been sent there to check on the progress of an amazing fertility drug, has died. Now his co-worker Marina must go to discover how Anders died and what the doctor (Annick Swenson) in charge of the fertility treatment has been covertly doing all the years Vogel Pharmaceutical has financially supported her. Marina must confront both her fears of Dr. Swenson (with whom she has a bad history) as well the poisonous snakes, malaria-carrying mosquitoes and other terrors of jungle life. Patchett takes readers on a suspense-filled journey into the heart of darkness and concludes with shocking revelations. Sign-up for district residents begins Wednesday, October 10 at the adult reference desk. You will receive a copy of the book and discussion questions at that time.
