The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier
Open to district residents only. Limit of 20 people.
In 1850, Quaker Honor Bright finds herself alone in the new frontier of Ohio after fleeing England when her engagement is broken. Honor's new friend Belle secretly assists the Underground Railroad while Belle's brother, Donovan, also fascinated with Honor, tries to catch the runaway slaves. Honor marries a fellow Quaker but the harshness of pioneer life and the moral complexities of assisting the Railroad stretch her firm but untested convictions. Quilting is an important outlet for Honor and attendees may bring a quilt they would like to share with the group. Sign-up begins Tuesday, January 14 at the adult reference desk.
